1 Hydrulics & Pneumatics
United Cast Bar produce a range of grades in both, grey/ flake and SG/nodular irons which are ideally suited to the requirements of the hydraulics and pneumatics market.
Our Unibar materials demonstrate substantial advantages over other materials including steel and aluminium and production methods such as sand castings.
Manufacturers are utilising the superior machinability characteristics of Unibar continuous cast iron to achieve significant improvements in machining times and
consequently significant overall cost savings with improved mechanical characteristics.
United Cast Bar are constantly striving to improve their existing range of materials by the development of new continuously cast products and have produced a range of
materials suitable for low temperature applications where high impact resistance and ductility is required down to temperatures of -40°C.
These materials are ideally suited for hydraulic applications in the wind turbine and shipbuilding both on land and off shore.
2 Fluid Power
United Cast Bar supplies a range of material grades into the pumps (incl. vacuum pumps) and compressors sector for various applications.
Continuously cast iron material is used by most of the major compressor manufacturers who represent over 50% of the existing market worldwide.
United Cast Bar offer its Unibar range of products which demonstrate substantial advantages over steel and sand castings when used for Rotors, Pistons and
Cylinder Liners for example.
Particularly for the production of compressor rotors, our Unibar qualities are used, especially the specific grades Unibar 400-15, Unibar 500 and Unibar 500+.
All of our products eliminate the problems associated with graphite floatation ensuring accurate balancing of the rotors.
Manufacturers are utilising the superior machinability characteristics of Unibar continuously cast iron to achieve significant improvements on their machining times and
consequently, significant cost savings with improved mechanical characteristics.
Lathe turning operations (Facing, Centering and Rough Turning) have shown to be up to 50% faster on Unibar continuously cast iron compared to steel, with 25%
improvement on profile turning and grinding operation times.
3 Mahinery & Machine-tools
Both, our Unibar grey iron grades and our Unibar nodular iron grades are used extensively in the machinery and machine tool industry sector.
Due to the structural characteristics and exceptional mechanical properties our Unibar products are used to achieve significantly improved machining times and
reduce costs.
The mechanical properties of Unibar ensure quality and reliability are maintained throughout the manufacturing and operational life.
Especially in the machinery and machine tools section, machining operations can be up to 50% quicker on Unibar continuous cast iron when compared with steels,
as well as a 25% improvement on profile turning and grinding operation times.
4 Glass Industry
United Cast Bar supplies continuous cast iron into the glass industry sector for various applications. Unibar is thereby used for the production of glass bottles as well as
float glass applications.
Our special qualities Unibar GF, Unibar GFP, Unibar GFE (heat treated grade) and Unibar GFMV are the primary materials used for the production of glass moulds and
glass mould neck rings.
Unibar GF, Unibar GFP, Unibar GFE and Unibar GFMV offer a microstructure of interdendritic graphite in a ferritic matrix and are often used to replace traditional sand
castings.
All of our glass qualities are titanium treated which gives a very fine graphite matrix. The fine graphite produces an exceptionally fine polished finish, perfect for
the manufacture of glass bottles where a highly polished finish is required.
United Cast Bar manufacture carrying rollers manufactured from Unibar ADI material. Unibar ADI is an austempered ductile iron that offers a unique combination of
toughness and wear resistance.
Strengths of over 1500 MPa (216,000 psi) can be developed, similar to that of high tensile steels whilst retaining the beneficial properties of Unibar continuously cast iron,
such as excellent machinability, vibration and noise damping capacity, 10% weight reduction and high wear resistance due to the self-lubricating network of graphite.
5 Automotive Industry
Unibar continuous cast iron bar is also used within the automotive industry for the manufacturing of various products.
United Cast Bar supplies to the automotive industry a wide range of grey/ flake and spheroidal iron that totally meet the requirements of the different end products due to
their special characteristics.
The mechanical properties and defect free quality ensure manufacturers gain significant cost savings whilst maintaining essential design characteristics.
Manufacturers are utilising the benefits of Unibar continuously cast iron, achieving improved mechanical characteristics along with the elimination of burrs on internal
machined faces.
Lathe turning operations (facing, centering and rough turning) can be up to 50% quicker to machine continuous cast iron when compared with steel.
Unibar offers many advantages over steel and sand castings for use in the automotive sector.
High wear resistance and excellent noise and vibration damping make this material extremely suitable for the manufacture of gears and brake discs.
The 10% weight reduction against steel is beneficial to manufacturers of performance parts.
6 Steel Manufacturing
Unibar ADI is primarily used for applications in this industry sector. They present substantial advantages over other material types.
Reliability is one of the key factors when specifying Unibar ADI.
Manufacturers utilise the superior qualities of Unibar ADI to achieve significantly improved machining times which leads to overall cost savings with improved mechanical
characteristics.
The machinability of all the Unibar grades of iron is such that complex forms, bores and keyways can be machined up to 50% faster than in tool steel and forged steel.
In cold metal forming applications, the presence of graphite in the microstructure has improved productivity on materials that are prone to producing dust and swarf during
the rolling operation such as galvanised coated steel.
Additionally Unibar ADI is used in cold aluminium rolling where the aluminium is prone to stick to tool steel.
7 Oil & Gas Equipment
In addition to other industry sectors our material is also supplied for various applications within the oil and gas industry. Unibar is suitable for a wide range of
metal forming applications;
from foundry core boxes, rolls and rollers for the paper and float glass industry through to front end segment rollers for continuous casting lines.
Unibar ADI is particularly suitable for these applications. Unibar ADI is an austempered ductile iron that offers a unique combination of toughness and wear resistance.
Strengths of over 1500 MPa can be developed that are equal to that of high tensile steels, whilst retaining the beneficial properties of Unibar continuously cast iron,
such as excellent machinability, vibration and noise damping capacity, 10% weight reduction and high wear resistance due to the self-lubricating network of graphite.
